What's New in Version 5.1

Setting New Standards is What We Do...and We Can Prove It To You.

axiUm 5.1’s new features and axiUm+ modules will further our clients’ goal of having an efficient and intuitive Dental Practice Management software solution.

New axiUm+ Modules for axiUm 5.1.

axiUm eRx will provide dental institutions with a fully integrated e-prescription solution to allow the provider to prescribe medications online. By eliminating paper prescriptions, human error and misuse factors can be eliminated.  axiUm eRx will enable doctors to perform drug interaction checks, access over 65,000 drugs on the National Drug Database, review drugs that are covered by insurance and electronically submit the prescription to the patient’s pharmacy of choice.

Improved Features in axiUm 5.1

Security and Safety Measures

axiUm now has the ability to define User Based Roles which will allow administrators to match job roles to axiUm Power Admin roles.  These roles are then used as building blocks to define user levels.   Reports can then be created to show which users can have rights to perform specific tasks in axiUm.

Safety and Security MeasuresFor emergency purposes, axiUm 5.1 allows patient access rights to be temporarily assigned to those users who have restricted patient access.   For designated users, this option allows the user to switch to Emergency Mode and access full patient records.  All actions in this mode are logged and documented and the axiUm Desktop displays in red to make the Emergency Mode obvious to the logged in user.

Documents printed from Patient Care can be saved as attachments or consents in Patient Attachments.  This provides stored proof that a document was printed and presented to the patient.  As with other consents in axiUm, patient signatures can be captured on consent type documents printed from Patient Care.

As an increased safety measure, axiUm users now have the ability to perform drug to drug, drug to allergy and drug to medical alert interactions in the Medication tab (formerly the Prescriptions tab) in the EHR.  By listing current medications a patient is taking, new prescriptions can be checked against those medications for possible interactions.  Drugs can be defined as controlled substances or narcotics and users can be restricted from prescribing drugs from a specific schedule.  Careful configuration by clinicians is essential to an institutions success with this new feature.

 Customizing and Streamlining

To streamline a user’s workflow, axiUm 5.1 has enabled the Scratchpad contents to be saved for the logged in user. Users can now place tasks on their own list or simply “jot down” notes or save frequently used text for easy reference.  The saved contents of the Scratchpad will follow the user to any workstation the user logs into.

With axiUm 5.1 the number of days that a provider can be booked in the future and the last date in which a provider can be booked can be predefined in the provider’s user record.  This enables staff to create provider schedules in advance without having appointments added before the schedules are finalized.

While on the clinic floor, axiUm 5.1 eliminates the frustration of having only one provider eligible for a Start Check. The logged on stations for both the primary provider and secondary provider will display the Start Check indicator.   Granting a Start Check to one provider will automatically grant the Start Check for the other appointment provider.  This can be extremely useful when tracking which students treated which patients and also to have data necessary to report on student attendance.

EPR (Electronic Patient Record) forms have a new question type to allow entry of grid type answers in rows and columns.  Another new form feature allows a limit of the number of choices that can be selected for a question using a checklist.  In the past, only drop-down list type questions could be used to limit the number of answers to one, but no additional information could be added to the selection.  Checklists can now be defined to allow a single or multiple answers and additional information can be added to any selection.

With treatment based forms, a warning to add a form will automatically pop up as a reminder and will allow the user to add the form immediately during the treatment input process. Users won’t forget to add an important treatment form …and won’t be frustrated by having to go back and add the form prior to completing the treatment input.

Transactions and Insurance Claims

When adding patient adjustments, the user will be prompted to apply the adjustments.  This should alleviate the user from forgetting to apply the adjustment to the treatment.  For many institutions, forgetting this final “Apply” step resulted in numerous unallocated adjustments.

A major new feature in axiUm 5.1 gives users the ability to allocate a payment to any outstanding charge that the payer is responsible for including both treatments and office charges for an entire family.  Allocations to treatments on payment plans can also be done at the same time, all in one convenient Family Payments window.  A display of amounts owing for each family member will assist the staff to collect the entire famiiy balance.

Transactions.jpgIn real time, insurance eligibility can now be verified allowing the institution and patient to better understand current coverages, limits and deductibles. axiUm 5.1 can also provide an accurate estimate of the patient portion for the charges related to an appointment.   When a patient is checking in, staff or providers can click a Recalculate button to consider unused limits and unsatisfied deductibles and view the patient’s financial responsibility for the appointed treatments.

Canadian dental schools can now submit insurance claims electronically using CDAnet.  CDAnet makes it possible for the institution to transmit a patient’s insurance claim data to the insurance company, eliminating the need to print and mail paper claim forms.   Claims will be paid faster and non-covered procedures will be identified sooner.

Should the need arise to re-print an insurance claim; this can now be done without having to re-bill the claim.  The institution can include a “Copy Only” watermark on all duplicate claims to prevent misuse of any duplicate copies of the original claim.

Many other new enhancements have been added in axiUm 5.1.  Details of those features can be found in the complete release notes on the Exan website at http://www.exangroup.com/Support/portal  Watch for Video Demonstrations of many of the 5.1 Enhancements on the Exan Portal in the Documents section under axiUm, Videos.  We’re sure you’ll find the video clips useful to show the “folks back home” all the fine features of axiUm 5.1!
