UNDERSTANDING MEDICAID INCENTIVE PAYMENTS
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 allowed for the enactment of the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record Incentive Program through The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
According to the CMS website (https://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms)
The Medicaid EHR Incentive Program will provide incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and CAHs as they adopt, implement, upgrade, or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology in their first year of participation and demonstrate meaningful use for up to five remaining participation years.
Eligible professionals can receive up to $63,750 over the six years that they choose to participate in the program.
BENEFITS FOR YOUR INSTITUTION
Over a 6 year term, each eligible professional will be able to receive $63,750. A typical institution has a minimum of 8 possible eligible professionals. This equates to over $500,000 in incentive payments over a 6 year period.
